3 Star Rating  August 2nd, 2013   great park for families
The best thing about this state park is that everything is accessible by foot from your campsite, which is really nice for families. You don`t have to get all the kids back in the car if you want to take a hike or go swimming, you can walk everywhere. There are 3 different playgrounds, a playfield, horseshoe pits, and a basketball hoop. The bathrooms are modern and clean. Since one of my kids is newly potty-trained, I really appreciated that there were so many bathrooms around. The swimming beach is okay- not the best I`ve been to, but it is adequate. The lake is small, but there is a lot of sand for the kids to play in. When you are sitting on the beach, you can see trucks and cars passing over on the other side- didn`t really like that very much. There is a small stream winding through the campground, and many of the campsites are wooded and private- especially sites 25 and 29 (walk-in), and sites 38, 40, 42, and 44. Site #9 is also very nice, not quite as private as the other sites I mentioned, but it is right in front of the stream.

5 Star Rating  July 29th, 2013   Worlds End State Park
We love to stay at Worlds End State Park. There are several private wooded sites in the upper loop of the campground. The lower loop is less private, which electric pull-in sites for RVs. The bathrooms are modern- well maintained and clean. There is even a family bathroom, which is nice if you have kids. Loyalsock creek, which is located near the park office, is a great place to spend an afternoon. Walking on the rocks near the water and wading in the creek is fun for the family. If you have a tube you can tube a little ways down the river. It is shallow, and on a hot day the water is surprisingly warm. At the far end of the creek, under the bridge by the beach, there is a swimming area right next to the bottom of a mountain. Be sure to wear water shoes, the rock bottom can be a little uncomfortable at times. Look up at a wall of rocks and trees. Look down and see your feet- the water is clear and cold and refreshing! It is just a beautiful place to swim. Take a drive up to see Canyon Vista for a breathtaking view. Behind the scenic overlook is a path leading into the woods, and an area filled with huge boulders for climbing and exploring. There is also a nice playground, and during the summer the park office offers nature programs for children and adults.

5 Star Rating  July 29th, 2013   Ricketts Glen
My family loves to visit Ricketts Glen. Although we prefer tent camping, we have only ever stayed in the cabins when we vacation there. We have driven through the campground, but it didn`t appeal to us because of the openness of the campsites and the lack of privacy. We like to camp in the woods, not in the open. The cabins are clean and comfortable. The cabin area is very nice, and within walking distance of the lake, which has a sand beach and a concession stand offering standard beach-fare such as hot dogs and burgers and ice-cream. They also sell firewood. I absolutely love the beach at Ricketts Glen. It is clean, and during the summer the water is a comfortable temperature (not too cold like most mountain lakes). We spend hours just hanging out at the beach with the kids, swimming and making sand castles. From the cabin area, you can also access several hiking trails, including the popular but perilous Falls Trail. What makes this an ideal and relaxing place to stay is that you rarely have to get in the car, there is so much to do just a short walk away. Ricketts Glen is known for its many scenic waterfalls, most of which are accessible by the Falls Trail. We have never attempted this hike, because it is reported to be quite difficult and we have young children. There is a waterfall called "Adam`s Falls" which is accessible by car- so that is the only one of Ricketts Glen`s falls that we have seen. It is quite beautiful. The nearby town of Benton has a grocery store, a laundromat, and several restaurants should the need arise. The Benton Municipal Park is a nice place to take the kids while you are waiting for your laundry to be done- there is a playground and a river that runs right through the middle of the park. Also, last but not least, the park has many wild blueberry bushes. We picked a bunch to put in our pancakes one morning. Delicious!
