2 Star Rating  August 17th, 2015   Carp River Campground
Carp River has quiet and private sites in a wooded setting. The Carp River really did not have much in the way of hiking, fishing or swimming. It did have an ORV trail. No electric hook up. They have a hand pump and vault toilets. Sites have a lantern post, picnic table and campfire ring. The biggest draw is it`s location about 15 minutes north of St. Ignace. Hotel chains in St. Ignace get between $200-300/night on summer weekends. So, $13/night leaves you with some extra spending money if you are willing to rough it.
Hiawatha National Forest
5 Star Rating  April 27th, 2015   Wonderful County Park
We did not camp here but this will be our new base camp when exploring the Huron National Forest. It is huge for a county park! The campground winds along the shores of the Ausable River which is so wide in this area, it is more like a lake. The sites are wooded, clean, and well spaced out. They have a playground, general store, boat rental and small beach. It is very scenic more like what you would expect from a state park. If you have small kids you might want an interior site as some of the waterfront sites have a steep drop down to the river.
Old Orchard Park
2 Star Rating  April 27th, 2015   Definitely A City Park
The sites were very close together with minimal shade or privacy. It appeared most of the sites were taken by seasonal campers. It is on the shores of Lake Huron and is located in the city of East Tawas. There are two small parks that border both sides of the campground. It is located next to the marina and state boat launch.
