| | July 28th, 2011We stayed here in July of 2011. The state park has hiking, fishing, an old school house, veterans memorial and the springs.
According to the Illinois DNR website, the campground was named one of the top twenty campgrounds in America by Family Circle. I find this claim hard to believe. There is nothing really wrong with the campground, but it is pretty much the same as every other Illinois state park campground. Nice, but not all that special. The sites are mostly flat and large enough. They are fairly close together, with nothing in between them. Weldon Springs State Park
July 27th, 2011We really liked this state park. The bat houses really do keep the mosquitoes under control. We didn`t use any bug spray the entire weekend. The bathroom is well maintained and clean. Canoeing on the lake was awesome. The hiking trails were great. My daughter is asking to go back. Because the campground is on top of a bluff, some of the sites are terraced which can make setting up a bit of a challenge. I had my camper on one level, the dining canopy on another, and the fire ring was on a third. Yellowstone Lake State Park July 27th, 2011This one of the best Illinois state parks that we have been to. The sites are big and not right on top of each other. The showers are in good shape and the playground is great. There is hiking and lake fishing from piers. Morrison-Rockwood State Park July 27th, 2011We like Shabbona Lake. The sites are good size and far enough apart. The bathrooms are in good shape, but bring your own soap. There is a playgound, hiking and lake shore fishing. Shabbona Lake State Rec Area July 27th, 2011Camp store - Closed.
Nature center - Closed.
Shower Building - Just OK.
Beach - mostly rock, only a small section is suitable for swimming.
The sites are decent sized and mostly level.
