Our family has camped 4-5 times during May and June. Beautiful hiking trails, awesome canoeing around lake shore, beaver, herons, ducks, mergansers loons. Stayed at camper cabins twice during Jan. Deer, ruffed grouse, wolf tracks and wolf kill on lake. Went howling at night and got responses from the local pack. Worth the drive. Can be very busy during summer, campground are nice, most sites are wooded with shrubs and trees between sites.

Voted as America`s Favorite Park and there`s a good reason...it really is a great park! It`s close enough to the town of Ely where you can shop to your hearts content, tour the Wolf Center, the Bear Center and much much more, and far enough away to feel like you`re in the wilderness of the BWCAW. Nice hiking trails, great picnic ground and just a wonderful place to spend some quality family time.

We went in November and stayed in one of the camper cabins. The cabins are very nice and comfortable. It was afer the campground was closed, so the trails and park were mostly empty. Has nice trails and scenerio. The Wolf Center is Ely is worth the drive in.

I think of all the state parks I have been to, this is my favorite. It's private, has fun hiking trails that lead to an awesome sandy swim beach. Nice remote lake for quiet canoe rides - it's like the Boundary Waters but it has hot showers. Close to Ely, too so you can venture into town for some mukluks!
