Come to Cascade for the rushing river and grand waterfalls that lay within a gorge, lush with moss and ferns that grow on black volcanic rocks. Hike the trail through birch, spruce and white cedar; stop to see the views of Lake Superior, the largest freshwater lake in the world. Trails connect with the Superior Hiking Trail and the North Shore State Trail and offer great recreational opportunities to hikers and cross-country skiers. Drive-in and backpack campsites are available.
Waterfalls and wildlife will thrill visitors at this scenic spot in the Sawtooth Mountains. Hike to the top of Moose Mountain (el. 1,148 ft.) and Lookout Mountain (el 1,200 ft.)

Driving Directions
10 miles southwest of Grand Marais, and approximately 265 miles from the Twin Cities. The office is located just off State Highway 61 at mile post 101.
Cascade River is just off Hwy 61 and campground is a bit up the hill. There is pretty good tree coverage and privacy throughout. Off in the distance you can catch glimpses of Lake Superior.

Nice hikes. Some pretty waterfalls along river hike. There is a hike up Lookout mountain that is strenuous but worth it. Campground was nice, but would like to try some of the backpack sites that are along Lake Superior.
